River Trail

We have been going for walks with our new friends Kathrin and Amelie. They are from Germany. This picture is from the bridge over the kaslo river. It's a walking bridge and it's so nicely made. I wish I would've taken a picture of it from one end to the other.. maybe on Friday; we're going to go on another walk, all the way around on the trail this time. It should take us a few hours. It feels so good to go out of the house and get back into nature. I have been wanting to do this for a long time, but I always found excuses not to. Which are, of course, some pretty good excuses like that there are bears *everywhere* here. It feels safe to walk with a group, though. I always told myself that I would go for walks all the time once I got a dog. But that's a long way off. Anyways, we are enjoying going for walks. I even got a cool book on local hikes, and Kathrin and I are going to try some of them out.

First Day of Kindergarten!

At last school has begun. The teacher was doing home visits last week, which was so nice for all of us. So I have to update my blog with such big news, and pictures too.

The harvest is coming in now. I've canned batches of jam and peaches. I really want to get some cucumbers to make pickles, but have enough on my plate for the moment. My Oldest Daughter (whom I'll call Sunshine) is starting kindergarten soon. The teacher is coming for a home visit on thursday. It's so old fashioned that she does that still. I love it! I love this town!

This picture is priceless. I want to spread it around the internet a bit, if I can. Hopefully some people will stop mutilating their son's genitals one
day.

I liked this pic for some reason. I think it's cause of the lighting in my house.

My new baby!

Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Here's my unruly peas and lettuce. Since this picture, the kids shaved off a large portion of the lettuce. Not just my kids, but the neighbours, wanted to have a big salad with my immature lettuce. Well, it was fun, and healthy. The lettuce will still grow some more. I can't wait for the peas, they are my FAVORITE thing in the garden.

My mothers day marigold that the girls planted at preschool

I got me a job!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I got the job with the food security network! yay! I'm going to be learning all about gardening to feed my family. They say I can bring the kids too, so I don't even have to find a babysitter.

I have an interview for an apprenticeship position with the Kaslo Food Security Network on Wednesday. I'm kinda suprised. I guess my resume was good enough. It was a kinda practice resume. This job is a learning/voluteer position. But I think the information about how to garden is invaluable in these times of change. The rent will manifest itself ;)

my view at my rental. That's my garden a few weeks ago before everything was planted.

So this is my garden. Part of it, that is. I planted shelling peas on the side of the frame on the bottom of the picture. They are my favorite garden vegetable. I planted so much! Good thing I do deep beds! so on the right side of the frame I planted green beans, so experimenting and possibly canning. I'll see how much I get out of there first.

On the other bed, I planted cabbages (not in this picture as I did them a couple days after:P), beets, and leeks. Hopefully this garden will flourish and I will learn something new about gardening. I always misjudge the crazy fastness that grass will grow into the garden and plant too close to it.
